I view mixing as a creative, artistic process — where the destination is a finished song with soul and emotion. My goal is to transform tracks into powerful, moving records. And I can do this for your music too, no matter where or how it was recorded.
Are you looking for a creative partner? I work one-on-one with artists to develop and produce their music from the ground up. A simple voice-and-guitar demo is often all we need to begin, and together we shape it into a fully realized, professional record.

hi i'm brandon
My music career started before I even knew how to fold my laundry. At 19, I ran off on tour with the Bay Area indie band Minus One. Those early, bootstrapped DIY tours eventually gave way to properly managed runs, opening for artists like Pearl Jam and Blind Melon as I gigged my way through my twenties. It was a decade when I valued a live show more than proper living accommodations.
Recording was always my first love. I grew up making songs on my Tascam 4-track, so whenever my band needed a demo or an EP, I was the one volunteering. Then, in an impossibly rare moment of downtime in all my music projects – I seized the moment and returned to where I grew up and opened a recording studio in Seattle SODO.
What started as a do-it-all recording studio that was fixated on filling the calendar with sessions, I soon realized that what I was truly good at was working with artists one-on-one to develop their music. I had a knack for taking simple arrangements – like a guitar and voice – and building out full, pro-sounding productions.
After opening the studio doors in 2006 in Seattle and operating there for 4 years, I relocated to Idaho and built a studio in downtown Boise. I've now leaned all the way into music development and production – offering a complete ally-based partnership with artists that spans tracking, added instrumentation, mixing, and mastering. Across 20 years of professional recording and production, I've worked with tons of indie artists from all around the world, as well as projects with RCA Records, Columbia Records, and Atlantic Records, A24, HBO and more.
Luxetone is located in the heart of downtown Boise on the corner of 8th & Bannock. This foot traffic-only block is also home to several of Boise's top restaurants including Bittercreek Alehouse, Red Feather, The Matador, Eureka, The Mode, Diablo & Sons, and St. Lawrence Gridiron. Equipment load-in is within footsteps of our front door via an underground parking garage.
Our commercial facility is not in somebody's home; although you'll feel right at home inside of a cozy, comfortable space filled with plush furniture and musical instruments that are in reach at all times. The studio layout includes a spacious control room, brick-walled tracking room, vocal room, lobby and seating for many.
FAQ
what styles do you work on?
Let me be super honest here. I'm not great at all music styles.
Your music will sound way better if you work with someone that's good at working on your style. What I AM very good at is Americana, rock, soul, folk, funk, roots country, retro styles, stuff like that. I'm also very down with electronic, experimental, metal.
It may be easier to list what I'm NOT a good fit for: rap, hip hop, or ultra pop style productions.
If you don't see your genre listed here, please reach out to me. I'd love to hear about your music and I'll let you know if I think I'm a good fit to help!
how much does it cost to record a song?
Songs are priced at flat rates. If you're recording the song in the studio, the rate consists of tracking + mixing. If you've already recorded the song and want it mixed, the song rate is my mix rate.
I promise to give you a rate for your song or record if you contact me. I just need to know a little bit about the style and arrangement. I'm not a salesperson so you can be guaranteed I won't try a sales pitch on you. Just simple pricing.
See our Pricing section to learn more about our process.
do you charge hourly rates?
No. We price according to the project. Prices are generally calculated by the song or by the record.
i’ve never recorded before — is that okay?
Of course!
do my songs need to be finished before coming in?
Nope!
There are lots of paths to finishing songs.
A) We can fill out your song arrangements together using in-house instruments and performances from you and me.
B) We can hire session musicians locally
C) We can hire sessions players anywhere in the world
D) If you'd like to play everything on your songs, you can continue developing your songs in the studio.
E) We invent something new.
can you play instruments for my music?
Hell yeah
do you provide session musicians or instruments?
Yes and yes.
can we record a full band?
Yes. Please let me know who plays what in your band and we can make a plan.
how long does it take to finish a song?
It truly depends. Some artists knock out a song in a day, and some songs can take weeks or months. It really depends on what's written already and our process for recording the song.
what will I receive when the project is finished?
Usually you receive your finished song files or record, fully ready to release to distribute or stream.
do you do mastering
I always encourage artists to hire a mastering engineer separately from their mix engineer. Getting another set of ears on your songs is invaluable.
But with that said, I do love mastering and am happy to do it if you need it. In fact, I include mastering at no cost when you book a record with me.
Standalone mastering services are available at $65/song.
can I come in and lay down vocals on my beat?
If you already have a track and you just want to throw down some vocals on it, this is not the right place for that.
We don’t book by the hour here.
There’s no clock running in the corner. No pressure to rush a take because time is up. No creative decisions based on what’s cheapest in the moment.
You’re not paying for hours. You’re investing in a finished record.
Every project is priced as a whole, based on what it needs to become complete. My role isn’t just to capture tracks — it’s to help you shape, build, and finish something you’re proud to release. I’m not here to engineer time. I’m here to make music with you.
If you’d like a quote, just reach out. Tell me about your songs, where they’re at, and what you’re hoping to create. I’ll put together a clear number so you know exactly what to expect.
And for what it’s worth — working this way is often more affordable than clock-based studios. Without the meter running, we can focus on making something great instead of racing the clock.
I'd love to hear about your project! Feel free to reach out to me via text, phone call or email.
